SUCCESSFUL OFFICIAL OPENING DAY
METZESCHMELZ
Following a successful official opening day hosted by Agora, we are excited to share an update on our master plan project in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. Our master plan transforms the historic Steel Mill, Arbed Esch-Schifflange from a derelict industrial site into a vibrant car-free neighbourhood called Metzeschmelz. Since winning the competition in 2019, Urban Agency and COBE, have been developing a catalogue of strategies for creating human-scaled spaces, biodiverse green living environments and car-free mobility and infrastructure networks, while maintaining the history and identity of the steel factory. The industrial site is planned to become a mixed-use district, with housing for over 8,000 new residents, office space, four new schools, craft and workshop spaces as well as a wide variety of public functions.
We are proud of the team for their incredible work so far and look forward to seeing how the project continues to develop in the coming years.
